RAMALLAH, Monday, May 24, 2021 (WAFA) – Around 155 administrative detention orders were issued against Palestinians, including 84 new orders, since the start of May; the highest percentage in years over a short period of time, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS).
PPS said the Israeli authorities have escalated their administrative detention campaigns against Palestinians during the recent period of escalated tensions throughout the occupied Palestinian territories.
To be noted, the number of Palestinians placed under administrative detention, without charge or trial, has reached 500, including three minors and two women, added the PPS.
Israeli occupation authorities continue to carry out systematic arrest campaigns that have affected more than 2,400 Palestinians since the start of May.
According to the Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association;
Administrative detention (AD) is a procedure that allows Israeli occupation forces to hold prisoners indefinitely on secret information without charging them or allowing them to stand trial. The secret information or evidence cannot be accessed by the detainee nor his lawyer, and can according to Israeli military orders, an administrative detention order can be renewed for an unlimited time. The court issues an administrative detention order for a maximum period of six months, subject to renewal.
